Godsmack originated from the Boston area. They were once thought to be a cover band for Alice in Chains. People thought that they got their name from the album Dirt, but in actuallity the way they got their name went like this. One day Sully Erna (vocalist) was hassling the previous drummer about a cold sore below his lip the next day Erna came to rehearsal with a cold sore in the same spot , someone later said God will smack you for making fun of him. The name is somewhat religous Erna is a Wican, for those of you who don't know what this is it is a Voodoo or witchcraft, they worship things like the moon,sun,earth and others.
